The parish of St Bede, Morris Green has an official population of approximately 7000 people with over 4500 houses and an electoral roll over just over 100. Houses are just within the average first time buyer’s price range and they are slowly replacing the older population, many of whom have lived in the area all their lives.
The parish has many thriving shops and businesses which serve the community including engineering companies, Funeral Directors and a local Post Office. The fabric of the church building has been kept in a good state of repair in spite of frequent vandalism. The building seats 240 people in traditional carved pews and has a Community Room built into the structure of the church which has kitchen facilities. We organise regular fundraising events and we have a church magazine with a circulation of approximately 200. The congregation of St Bede’s offer a wide range of skills and experience to support our Incumbent. The ministry of lay people and readers continue to be an important feature of our worship. St Bede’s has a ’middle of the road’ tradition, leaning towards evangelical and worships predominantly from the Book of Common Worship. There is lay participation in reading lessons, intercessions, administration and serving. We have a long tradition of music being used to support our worship. This is lead by our organist and a small robed choir. We use Mission Praise as a resource for our Hymns.
There are a number of well established church-based organisations such as Ladie’s Fellowship, Wives Group, Rainbows, Brownies and Children’s Church The congregation has become used to sharing clergy with another parish and recently we have adjusted to new times of Holy Communion on a Sunday morning. We would value pastoral care with a view to becoming part of a team ministry, furthering our informal links with our three neighbouring parishes. Our church is governed by the traditional PCC structure. The council meets on a two-monthly basis at present due to sharing our Incumbent with a neighbouring parish. At present there is an ’Executive Committee’ in place to take care of urgent issues that arise between meetings. The PCC and congregation at St Bede’s are open to the appointment of a female member of the clergy. |

Within the parish there are a number of schools, institutions and voluntary groups. The main school in the parish is St Bede C of E (aided) Primary School which has a strong link with our church. The main secondary school is Hayward School which serves the local community and the neighbouring area of Great Lever.
Our ministry team is staffed by the incumbent and three licensed readers with support from our lay team, all of whom assist in pastoral care.
